Set specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound goals that drive real results
SMART is a powerful goal-setting framework that helps you create clear, actionable objectives. By making your goals SMART, you dramatically increase your chances of achieving them and can track your progress more effectively.
Your goal should be clear and specific, answering the questions: What do I want to accomplish? Why is this goal important? Who is involved?
Example:
❌ "Get fit"
✅ "Run a 5K race by completing a 12-week training program"
Include criteria for measuring progress. How much? How many? How will I know when it's accomplished?
Example:
❌ "Read more books"
✅ "Read 24 books this year (2 per month)"
Your goal should be realistic and attainable. Is this goal realistic given your current resources and constraints?
Example:
❌ "Become a millionaire in 3 months with no current income"
✅ "Save $10,000 in 12 months by setting aside $850 per month"
Your goal should align with your values and long-term objectives. Does this matter? Is this the right time? Does it align with other efforts/needs?
Example:
❌ "Learn to juggle" (when your career goal is to become a software developer)
✅ "Complete an online coding bootcamp to transition into software development"
Your goal needs a target date or deadline. When will this be completed? What can I do today? What can I do six weeks from now?
Example:
❌ "Launch my website someday"
✅ "Launch my professional website by December 31st, 2025"
